May We Tell You About First?
First Evangelical Lutheran Church is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). "Wisconsin" - because its origins can be traced to the state of Wisconsin. "Evangelical" - from the Greek language meaning "Good News", because it’s committed to sharing the Good News of the arrival of the promised Savior. "Lutheran" - because it follows the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther; based on the Bible. "Synod" - from the Greek language meaing "walking together", because it’s committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with other fellow believers.
First Lutheran is a Christian Church. It confesses Jesus Christ as Savior from sin and the Lord of Life. We hold to Jesus’ teachings and put them into practice in our lives.
First Lutheran is a Bible Church. It believes that all of the Bible is God’s Word and that only the Bible is the authority for Christian faith and life. We encourage Bible Study for both young and old so that they can grow in their faith, knowledge, and appreciation of the Bible.
First Lutheran is also a Community Church. It strives to reach out to the community and share God’s love which alone meets each other’s needs. Our congregation’s mission statement is as follows..."The continuing purpose of this congregation, as a gathering of Christians, is to serve all people in God’s world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the basis of the Holy Scriptures."
